Water
The Public Works Department takes care of the water tower and distribution system. The Superintendent of Public Works supervises the installation of water service pipes and their connection to the water main and enforces all regulations pertaining to water service in the City. Brooklyn contracts with Poweshiek Water Association for their water needs. Our goal is to ensure the highest quality of water and an adequate supply for drinking as well as fire protection.
Water Tapping Fees
2 inch main tap - $174.00
4 inch main tap - $172.00
6 inch main tap - $200.00
8 inch main tap - $191.00
Property owners in the Bear Creek Subdivision will pay a water tap fee of $626.79.
Separate Meters for outside watering are available. These are for filling swimming pools and watering trees. Using the separate meter will prevent being charged a sewer fee as this water will not go through the sewer system. Meters can be picked up at City Hall. There is a $65.00 deposit, which you will get back when the meter is returned. You may keep the meter for 1 week. If you need a meter for watering throughout the summer, one can be purchased for $65.00.
