BGM Community School District

The BGM School District encompasses approximately 141 square miles within the rural communities of Brooklyn, Guernsey and Malcom (hence BGM) located in east central Iowa.

Residential, commercial, industrial and agricultural areas are found within the boundaries

of the school district. BGM enrollment is 560 students. Staff consists of 3 administrators,

45 teachers, 37 classified support. School’s class sizes gives a student the chance to work

closer with teachers and participate in various activities and sports, clubs, academic teams,

band, choir, specialty music groups and many others.

The BGM Community School District is governed by a seven-member board of education.

Members are elected on rotation terms by residents of the school district.

Location and Facilities

BGM Community School is a single campus located at 1090 Jackson Street in Brooklyn, composed of Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade, which is attended by children and youth ranging in age of 5 to 18 years of age.

In March 2002 the new $5.8 million Elementary Building was completed. The campus includes the Elementary, Jr. High, and Sr. High classrooms along with two gymnasiums, stage, two computer labs with high-speed internet along with an Interactive Cable Network (ICN) classroom, library/media center and indoor swimming pool. Swimming pool is used by students, area residents and nearby communities with adult and summer programs being held. Located on site is an outstanding all-weather lighted track, which surrounds the football field and a new elementary playground area and soccer field. The BGM Booster Club completed a 60 x 135 foot service building/wellness center in 2004. The Wellness Center encompasses 4,500 square feet and houses fitness and weight-training equipment as well as a wrestling room. The 3,600 square foot service center area is used as a maintenance area for buses and other vehicles and for storage of vehicles and equipment.

A new Sports Complex under construction. The Sports Complex will consist of two little league size ball fields, high school softball and baseball field with a concession building and playground located in the center.

BGM Community Schools is a progressive district that believes in their investment in students' lives. The High School completed a $1 million rehabilitation and modernization of the entire exterior in 2005.
